Part aspiring forensic anthropologist, bioarchaeologist, flautist, dreamer, equestrian, idealist, perfectionist and culinary dilettante; I am a country girl who was accidentally raised in the city. I love nothing more than getting lost in the mountains, or fooling around with horses. Things that brighten my day include crunchy leaves underfoot, the smell of coffee, the sound of thunderstorms and dessert- especially of the cheesecake or chocolate variety. I frequently suffer from uncontrollable fits of laughter and an overactive brain, but find that regular doses of girl-talk and long runs reduce the latter. I’m still undecided as to whether a cure for the former is really to be desired.

But who am I? My 2:00 am voice? My woulda-coulda-shoulda decisions; my constant inner dialogue and imaginary interactions? Or am “I” who your senses perceive; the combination of the world’s opinions and perceptions of me amalgamated into a single being… How many “me”s are there out there, living in peoples imaginations?

So who am I? You tell me! Take a look around*, read the blog and feel free to comment on anything that interests or intrigues you. Whether you have a bone to pick, or similar experience or musing to share I love any kind of feedback.

If any of my words, photos or ideas tickle your fancy and you’d like to use or keep them in any other space, please use your manners and ask first! As you can see, I’m not terribly proficient in web design so I’m all about sharing and caring! Enjoy!

*there’s not much to see … yet!

Key Terms

Salut! Welcome to my brainy blog, where posts are inspired by things that irk or inspire me from an academic perspective. Some of the pages and posts are based on terms from a collection of essays "Key Terms in Language and Culture" edited by Alessandro Duranti; others are merely things I think about at school, or from a scientific perspective. Enjoy!

…doing things with words

Performativity is a concept coined by John Austin, and in the world of linguistics refers to a category of utterances that have no truth value since they do not describe the world, but act upon it. A way of “doing things with words”.
